In order to transmit the impressive maximum torque of 900 newton metres, the well-tried five-speed automatic transmission of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class was adjusted to the high driving torque of the Type 12 engine with broader planet sets, a larger torque converter, a newly programmed converter link and a modified electrohydraulic command module. The one-touch gearshift of the automatic transmission offers highest ease of use: In the "D" position, all driving stages can be changed by shortly touching the selection lever.
